Here's a perfect movie for kids, who never seem to tire of John Hughes's sure-fire slapstick formula. Working yet another variation on his mammoth 1990 hit, writer-producer Hughes (regarded by many as Hollywood's antichrist) strands a youngster in his own home with the chicken pox in this 1997 retelling. While his parents go to work, he sees a team of burglars invading the neighborhood houses; in fact, they're spies, looking for a toy containing a stolen microchip. The inevitability of the finale--one kid holding off four professionals with toys and garden tools--will do nothing to lessen the amusement of youngsters, who love to see the bad guys get creamed. Adults may pause at the sadistic nature of some of Hughes's pranks, but kids will eat up the image of one of their own outwitting all the adults. --Marshall Fine

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Call me hard-hearted, call me cynical, but please don't call me if they make ``Home Alone 3.''
These words, from my review of ``Home Alone 2,'' now have to be eaten. To my astonishment, I liked the third ``Home Alone'' movie better than the first two; I'm even going so far as to recommend it, although not to grownups unless they are having a very silly day. This movie follows the exact formula of the first two, but is funnier and gentler, has a real charmer for a hero, and provides splendid wish fulfillment and escapism for kids in, say, the lower grades.

There is even a better rationale for why the hero is left home alone. Played by a winning newcomer named Alex D. Linz, who seems almost too small for a middle initial, the kid gets the chicken pox. His dad is out of town on business, his mom has an emergency at the office, and his brother and sister are at school. So he's left home alone, with a beeper number, a fax number, ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - home alone 3 movie
The dvd came on time to us. However, it was listed as brand new and it was clearly a used copy, so that was a little disapointing. Other than that it was fine.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Home.... agggh....
"Home Alone 3" is such a bad, awful, terrible movie it deserves zero stars. Take the McCaulay Culkin character, replace him with a new actor, and introduce international espionage! The playfulness of the original Home Alone (Family Fun Edition) is replaced with cheesy pranks, and a conspiracy plot that sounds like it's more indebted to The Bourne Identity (Widescreen Extended Edition) One expects to see an amnesiac Matt Damon knocking out foreign-accented bad guys.

In "Home Alone 3", Kevin suffers from chicken pox... but his parents leave him alone. Anyhow. There are numerous lame pranks, and it's about as funny as getting wisdom teeth removed without anesthesia. Sad to say, this movie was written by the late, dearly beloved John Hughes of Pretty in Pink (Everything's Duckie Edition) and The Breakfast Club (High School Reunion Collection). ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - a good adition to the series....
this is a pretty good movie. i enjoyed it very much. i recommend it to everyone

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Absolutely terrible
What's good about this second sequel to Home Alone? Well, the cinematography is good, and the snow looks nice. And that's about it. Everything else about this movie is excruciatingly awful! Home Alone 3 lacks the charm, wit, and warmth that the first two movies had. First of all, the plot is just ridiculous. It's about the same as the original, but this time, the government is involved! Yeah, it's just plain silly. Second, the booby traps are a bit creative, but really, how could a little kid come up with stuff like this? The main character from the first two films didn't create traps as complex as this. So why how does THIS kid know when to hit the mark? Third, if these villains are professionals, then why do they have a hard time defeating the kid?! I know it's only a family film, but these villains have to at least act like grownups and, of course, have ... Read More
